Turtle Cowry
DESCRIPTION
Shell very large, heavy and solid, cylindrical with extremities moderately protruded. Base flat, aperture elongate, anteriorly widening. Labral teeth coarse and short, columellar teeth longer, especially on the anterior part. Dorsum ornamented with many large square blotches and small round spots of darker coloration. Color black or tan, base coffee milk-colored. Juvenila specimens are much paler (coffee milk-colored) with spiral banding. This species was named for its resemblance to a tortoise-shell and is one of the largest species of this family. Distribution: Quang Ngai, Phu Quy Island, etc. Size: 73-150mm
