A solid, thick, heavy shell with wellrounded whorls and a deep but narrow surture. Broad, Flattened spiral ribs encircle lower whorls; rib on body whorl below the suture is pinched in, forming angle with succeeding rib. Oblique growth lines are conspicuous on lower whorls. Edge of aperture thin. Columella has prominent blunt tooth. Umbilicus concealed. Grayish, yellowish, or off-white, with spiral rows of purple, red, or black dashes; aperture and columella white.
