DESCRIPTION
A large, heavy, and rotund shell with a convex base and callused margins. Aperture straight for most of length, cuving in at top. Numerous small teeth, those on outer lip more prominent than those opposite. Whitish or pale brown, blotched and streaked with darker brown; distinctive mantle line, reembling a river with tributaries, hence the name.
