Moon shells are globula in shpe and have a half-moon aperture. A thick, sometimes riblike callus largely, or completely, obscures the umbilicus. The operculum may be either corneous or calcareous. Moon shell bore holes in other types of molluscan shell and eat the inhabitants. They occur wordwide.
